When Adirondack Mountain Outfitters expanded operations to include whitewater rafting on the legendary Hudson River Gorge, choosing the right equipment was one of the most important decisions we had to make. We wanted rafts that could handle demanding river conditions, provide a safe and exciting experience for guests, and hold up to the heavy use that comes with commercial guiding. After many years of guiding in different brands of rafts, we chose SOTAR.
SOTAR rafts quickly stood out for their reputation in the whitewater industry. Built with extremely durable materials, these boats are designed to withstand the abrasion, rocks, and constant use that come with guiding rivers in the Adirondacks, especially low water conditions. The toughness of the construction gives our guides confidence on the water and helps ensure our fleet stays reliable throughout a long rafting season.
Performance was another major factor in our decision. The Hudson River Gorge offers everything from calm stretches to big wave trains and technical rapids, and SOTAR rafts handle these conditions exceptionally well. They are stable, responsive, and maneuverable, allowing our guides to confidently navigate the river while giving guests an exciting and memorable ride.
We were also impressed by how lightweight the rafts are compared to many commercial boats. This makes launching, loading, and transporting them significantly easier for our guides—something that makes a big difference during busy summer days when efficiency matters.
At Adirondack Mountain Outfitters, our core mission is to provide high-quality outdoor experiences while maintaining the highest safety standards. Choosing SOTAR rafts was a natural fit with that mission. Their durability, performance, and thoughtful design help us deliver the kind of rafting trips our guests expect when exploring the wild beauty of the Hudson River Gorge.
As we continue to grow our rafting program, we’re proud to run a fleet of SOTAR rafts and confident they will serve our guides and guests well for many seasons to come.
