Repair

Repairing Your Boat

For minor repairs, clean the two surfaces to be patched with MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Available in patch kit or from any paint store) until all oxidation is removed (the shiny material should show through). Apply the first coat of adhesive immediately, brushing it on uniformly on each surface. Allow 20 minutes before applying the second coat in the same manner. When the second coat is dry, reactivate both surfaces with MEK. When aggressively tacky (like duct tape), assemble and apply pressure using a smooth hard object. If no MEK is available the patch may be applied when the second coat is tacky. Rub thoroughly for superior bonding. If you are repairing a rip over five inches, we suggest that you patch inside and outside. The size of the patch should be at least three inches larger than the rip in all directions. Most importantly, keep the surfaces dry at all times.

Factory Repairs

Should your boat require a factory repair, you can help expedite the repair process by following these steps:

1) Call 1-800-GO-SOTAR (467-6827) to receive a Return Authorization Number.
2) To avoid a cleaning fee, send your clean boat to:

3) Please fill out our repair form and include it with the boat. CLICK HERE to download it.

Please allow up to one week for an evaluation and an additional 3-4 weeks for repairs to be completed depending on the repairs necessary. Following the evaluation, we will notify you with a service estimate prior to making repairs unless the work is covered by warranty.

SOTAR Service Rates:

Evaluation Fee for Warranty Sotar Boats = NO CHARGE
Evaluation Fee for Non-Warranty Sotar Boats = $35.00 flat rate per boat
Evaluation Fee for All Non-SOTAR Boats = $50.00 flat rate per boat
Wholesale Labor Rate For All SOTAR Service Work = $55.00 per hour
Retail Labor Rate For ALL SOTAR Service Work = $63.25 per hour
Retail Labor Rate For All Boats Other Than SOTAR = $74.75 per hour

Non warranty repair work is NOT scheduled until after service estimate is authorized by customer and a 50% deposit has been received.
All SOTAR service work is done on a first come/first served basis. Non-SOTAR items will be evaluated and repaired on a second priority basis.
Due to the problems we have had in the past with boats being left here for months/years with non-payment and failure to pick up, starting January 1, 2008 we will have to now charge a $100.oo per month storage fee for any boat left here more than 60 days with non-approval, non-payment or non-pick up.
